Genevieve Leavold

Trained in theater design, Genevieve Leavold is originally from Somerset, UK. She is a self taught painter working in oils. Predominately known for her free-form, organic paintings, her reverence for spontaneous gesture draws from Zen, Buddhism, and other philosophies that embrace the concept of universal consciousness. She developed an early fascination with Eastern philosophy from her mother, a religion and philosophy teacher. Recurring themes in her work include concepts of self and the tension between the spiritual and the physical world — an exploration of the ephemeral and the eternal. Leavold uses organic forms found in nature as a source of inspiration for the shapes in her intuitive, direct paintings and drawings. She develops her process through a deep observation of nature, layering glazes to emulate the forms and colors found in worn, overgrown, and overlooked parts of her city. She has exhibited widely in the UK, Europe, and the U.S.A., and she has paintings in private and corporate collections worldwide.
