Elizabeth Wakefield

Elizabeth lives and works in St. Paul, finding freedom in the act of creation rather than in defining herself by medium or style. Rather than aiming to shift perspectives or make sweeping statements, she paints and draws for the simple joy it brings—observing the world and translating those reflections into art. Her practice is inward-looking, deeply personal: she’s a “selfish” painter in the sense that her work is an essential part of her own journey.

Though her interests span many directions, threads of color and everyday experience consistently appear. From youth onward, Elizabeth has been captivated by the relationships between colors. Today, she leans toward subjects that feel familiar—intimate corners of the day-to-day rendered in palette and line.

In this stage of her life and practice, Elizabeth embraces imperfection and openness: her work doesn’t need to be sacred, complete, purposeful, or even shared. It simply needs to exist. For her, creation is its own destination—a solitary and beautiful journey.
